Class Newsletter Week 8, Term 1

Hi Everyone,

I hope the weekend has treated you well and the Room 3 students are ready for a fun packed week.  Starting from Monday, we are going to get stuck into reading chapter books that are engaging for us to read and suitable for our current reading ability.  Susie our librarian gave us some excellent choices of books and a range of fabulous authors for us to try so we could be steered in the right direction.  Reading chapter books is a big part of each child's reading development, and as Susie explains it, "reading exercises our reading muscles and if we don't read, we are not letting those muscles grow".  Each day, for a solid 10 minutes, we are going to be read our chapter books... myself included!  Please encourage your child to bring in their book each day so they can get lost in their book each day.
The school pool has been closed until the end of the year.  We will not be having swimming at school anymore and tomorrow is the last session at Lloyd Elsmore.
Here are the details for the upcoming week:

Monday

- The Senior School teachers have a planning day for next term, so Ms Smol is in Room 3 for the day
- We are lucky to have a student teacher from AUT starting today, Miss Nazif, who will stay with us until Week 2, Term 2
- Last day for Lloyd Elsmore swimming
- Senior sport - remember sports gear!

Tuesday
- Senior School information session for Raglan camp
- Ivy's birthday!

Wednesday
- "Eye on Nature" trip for The Wises Group: John, Leigh, Kyle, Yvonne, Sean, Bradley, Evangeline.  See Mrs Dower for any details regarding this trip.  Have loads of fun!
- Manderin lesson
- The NZ Opera Company are performing 'The Barber of Seville'.  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to experience an opera, most likely for the first time (this is my first time too!)

Thursday
- Nia's Video
- School Assembly at 2:15pm

Friday
- Funky Feet
- Ripper Rugby Tournament.  Good luck to the teams and Room 3 students attending!  See Miss Kilduff for the details regarding the tournament
- Bible
- HomeFun and Spelling HomeFun (notebook) due in today.  Spelling Masters will now be done each Friday
- Te Reo
- Kapa Haka
